San Antonio Hair Restoration Surgery

At Dr. Kenneth Yu Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery we only use the most state-of-the-art techniques for hair loss treatment. Hair loss occurs among a large population of men and women due to genetic or hormonal reasons. San Antonio Hair restoration surgery may also restore hair loss due to burns, injury, or diseases of the scalp.

Hair restoration transplant is a cosmetic procedure performed on men and women who have significant hair loss. Both male and female pattern baldness does occur. In male pattern baldness, hair usually grows only in a horseshoe shape around the head. Female pattern baldness occurs with a thinning of the hair on the entire scalp, although some women do have hair loss that looks similar to male pattern baldness.

Hair restoration transplants your existing hair (from “donor sites”). Hair transplantation for males depends on “donor dominance” of the patient’s hair follicles–hair taken from the head below the top of the ears is genetically programmed to never fall out. These hairs may be transplanted to the frontal hairline and are not subject to further balding.

Most women do not have donor sites usable for hair restoration transplant. If the thinning pieces of hair and accompanying follicles are removed from one area and transplanted to another they will not be stable enough to grow. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for hair restoration transplant or to get more information on this procedure is to meet Dr. Kenneth Yu for a consultation.
