Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty or “nose job” is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures requested by San Antonio men and women, aside from a facelift procedure. The nose rests prominently in the center of the face and serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. For most patients, a deformity of the nose causes breathing problems. Abnormalities of the nose may be congenital or inherited, or caused by trauma or prior surgery. This may attract unwanted attention and distract from the natural beauty of your face.

When a nose is out of proportion with other facial features, deformed by a nasal bump, or is too large, these abnormalities may attract unwanted attention and distract from the natural harmony of the face. This surgery is the most challenging of all facial plastic surgery procedures, requiring significant skill and experience. Patients must trust their face to a facial plastic surgeon who has extensive, fellowship-trained experience in Rhinoplasty. San Antonio Rhinoplasty Surgeon Dr. Kenneth Yu is a highly trained Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon proficient in altering the structure and appearance of the nose. For more information, or ask any questions regarding rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty, please contact our office at (210) 876-6868.

Potential Rhinoplasty Candidates

San Antonio healthy men, women, and teens looking to improve the appearance and/or function of their nose may be excellent rhinoplasty candidates. Younger patients may be appropriate candidates based on several factors, including physical and emotional maturity. During a consultation, Dr. Kenneth Yu will work with you to help determine the best course of action that will deliver the most appealing results.

Procedure Details

This procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia. When performed on younger children, it may be carried out in a hospital setting. For those patients who need a small correction, the treatment may be performed non-surgically in Dr. Kenneth Yu’s office under local anesthesia.

As each nose is unique in both appearance and function, the rhinoplasty procedure and technique are tailored to each patient’s individual aesthetic and functional needs. Small incisions, hidden under the nasal tip and within the nose, allow access to the cartilage and bone responsible for the shape and function of the nose. These structures are carefully adjusted to achieve the desired appearance and function. Sutures are used to close the incisions and a small external splint is placed. Scarring is minimal and the sutures are securely hidden underneath the skin.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. Most patients return home a few hours after surgery. Length of recovery time depends on the complexity of the procedure and varies from patient to patient. Prescription pain medication is usually only required for the first few days. Mild discomfort, bruising, or swelling lasts 7 to 10 days. Most patients are able to return to work, school, or other daily activities within about one week.

Strenuous activities can be resumed after 2 weeks. Avoidance of contact sports is recommended for at least 2 months after surgery. Dr. Kenneth Yu reduces bruising and recovery time with the use of homeopathic and herbal options. Detailed postoperative and aftercare instructions will be provided to each patient.

Those San Antonio patients considering rhinoplasty  should carefully evaluate their surgeon’s credentials and training.
