Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions inside the nasal cavity only, eliminating all visible scarring after the procedure. This approach is recommended for patients that do not need as much correction since the internal incisions limit access to the nasal structure somewhat.
Open rhinoplasty uses a combination of internal incisions and a single external incision across the tissue on the underside of the nose. While this approach does leave a single visible scar underneath the nose, it is not noticeable and allows for greater access to the nasal cavity so that more correction can be done.
Your rhinoplasty will be performed as a day surgery, usually in the operating room of a hospital near Dr. Yu’s San Antonio’s office. Patients may be given general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the amount of correction needed, and the age and preference of the patient. Most rhinoplasties take a few hours to complete, and you will be returning home later in the day.
